Just as I left the building last night, huge raindrops started to fall. I walked the 20 minutes home with a mixed soundtrack of rain pinging off of my umbrella, tyres spinning on busy wet London streets and sirens inching the cars out of the way. I shook out my umbrella by the front door, left my soaking wet ballet flats (I know, I know…) on the steps to dry and headed inside to change into something cosy.
All the while, I was thinking that I don’t actually mind the rain, but how much fun would it be to spend these wet days in the countryside, taking long walks in the woods, sloshing through muddy puddles in wellies instead of tiptoeing around them, then heading indoors to a roaring fireplace, a dinner cooked with locally grown veggies and a good book?
All this came to mind, perhaps, because I’d been speaking with the lovely people at Parkdean who run holidays throughout the UK. With wedding planning and an upcoming honeymoon, we don’t really have the funds or the extra holidays to go abroad before September.
We’ve been talking instead about exploring the UK a bit more, traveling outside of London, taking short trips down to the coast to walk the windblown cliffs, hiking in the beautiful Lake District or heading out to New Forest for an afternoon of cycling.
I had fun taking Parkdean’s Home or Away quiz which shows two nearly identical photos. You have to guess which is in the UK and which is abroad. It’s more difficult than you would think. I ended up with a 620 out of 1,000 points, so a pretty mediocre showing.
See if you can do better:
Let me know your score in a comment. If you sign in with Facebook at the end, it will show you how your score compares and enter you to win a seven night holiday in the UK with Parkdean. Yes please!
If you could take a holiday anywhere within the UK, where would you go? While you think about that one, I’m going to see if my shoes have dried yet now that they are on my mind…

May 15, 2014 at 3:44 pmI got a pathetic 374, but then again I’ve only been to the UK a handful of times. My brothers and our spouses went to Devon and Cornwall this past Autumn. One of my older brothers lives in Kent, so we had a family reunion of sorts. We all absolutely loved the area. It was so relaxing an picturesque. Highly recommend!

May 19, 2014 at 10:31 amI am not a big fan of rain (especially after the amounts we’ve been having lately), but your photo’s are awesome.
